Moving Day

The day we moved was a Friday. Friday the 18th.
We woke up that morning in our home in Lehi for the last time. The feeling in the air that morning was so....different. Intangible. Almost like life was moving in slow motion all around me. My world was changing....Our world...and we all knew what was coming that day. Things new and exciting, adventurous even, but also some things that were sad. Today would be different. We would not be coming "home" after school. It goes without saying there were some somber faces. The kids went off to school as normal but would be picked up by Ashely as Damon and I would be off signing for our new house and getting keys. 
We had plans to meet up later...

Ashley's version: She went to pick up Deac and Noah from morning kindergarten(at Lehi elementary) for the last time. As she drove them away Deac broke down into tears as he suddenly remembered, "I forgot to tell my teacher goodbye!! I didn't tell my class goodbye!!"

Ashley asked him, "I can turn around. Do you want me to turn around and go back?!"

Deac was genuinely beside himself and couldn't stop his tears. All he could think about was how much he loved his teacher and how much he was going to miss her. 

Instead of taking Deac home for a peanut butter sandwich as planned, she took him, Noah, and Zoe to get a hamburger and ice cream. Exactly what he needed to take his mind off things.

Later that day, Ashley also picked up the girls from school for us since they had no where to go home to.

I was told that Ashley and the girls bonded that day after having a crying fest.

I shed my own tears that day when I heard what had happened and that I hadn't been there for my kids when they were sad. 
But I am so grateful that they had Ashley.

A note Deacon wrote to his teacher the day after we moved.

Going to a new school as "the new kids on the block" has proven itself to be both possible and actually not as bad as they thought it was going to be. Deac still misses his teacher and even cries about her whenever he talks about her. But I have a feeling he will love his new teacher just as much as she is an angel in disguise. And she loves him. Lucy and Kandus have already started making some friends at school and Kandus even said she likes her new class more than her old class. She said, "Everyone is casual, they treat everyone the same, and the teacher is more fun". 
I think everything is going to be okay.
