How Many Do You See?

First off, there are more grasshoppers than you think there are....some are camouflaged.
Deac and Lucy(mostly Deac) started catching these hopping critters just as soon as spring sprung and they popped their little heads up out of the ground.(Where do grasshoppers come from anyway?) For some reason our back yard has endless amounts over in the weedy regions. We did end up getting a cooler bug catcher which made catching them a little easier and helped cut down on the broken glass. This terrifically thrilling activity, of catch and release, will be carried on throughout the entire summer.

Then again, there was that one grasshopper they caught near the end of spring...
Lucy had just made a fossil from a common yellow house spider by ripping off it's body fur with clear tape. Then she put the "fossil"(tape) on a paper and wrote all about it. It was pretty cool.

I believe that act led to this story......

All of the kids, (mostly Kandus) wanted to make one of those cool resin rocks...you know the ones with bugs in them that always made you sad as a kid, but you also kind of loved them too?...
So, they found the biggest grasshopper they could find(it was light brown and BIG) and they poured glue from the hot glue gun I was using all over it.
When they showed me the finished product,it had little legs sticking out of a head filled glue glob, I tried really hard not to freak out and retch.
I'm pretty sure it cooked it through because the head was a light pink color and it looked like it had grown two sizes to big for it's body. Either that or the hot glue acted like a magnifying glass.
In the end, we all fealt so bad for the grasshopper and we swore to never dump hot glue on any poor creature again.
Especially alive ones.

P.S. Kandus and Lucy, please don't be mad at me for telling this story. I love you and I want you to remember some of the cool things you did as a kid. It was classic...it was funny...and we all do funny things! Especially when we get older.
Oh and, remember what I used to do to spiders???
