Yesterday afternoon we took Jack for a walk to the school to check out the new teacher list posted on the school doors. We had just reached the school safely when I noticed, back in the field a ways, was a giant Rottweiler playing fetch with a lady(ON SCHOOL PROPERTY WITHOUT A LEASH), and another lady sitting on the ground just feet away from us. You could tell that they had all came together.
"We need to be careful guys. I don't like those dogs, they're mean."....was the first thing I thought and said out loud to my children.
We passed by quickly and unnoticed to the front of the school, but only after Jack snarled and barked, real mean like and unlike himself, at the lady sitting on the ground. He has NEVER done that before. There definitely was something wrong.
It was on our way back, that we almost got eaten.
He came at us fast, standing nose to nose with our medium-sized kid friendly dog. The Rottweiler was snarling and I swear...foaming at the mouth. The mean lady freaked, sprinting across the lawn after him yelling at him and at the lady on the lawn. When she reached him she grabbed him by the collar and gave him one good smack.
All I could do was tell my kids to run as I held on tight to Jack's leash, stearing him away. I said something to the lady, but no words were returned. Her expression was hard. There was no...I'm sorry, no eye contact, no nothing. I was baffled by her rudeness.
Before this happened....
On the way to the school we were approached by an adorable little Beagle puppy. It stopped in the middle of the road causing the oncoming police officer to stop. It's owner came out of the house frantic, calling him back. The officer pulled up to me and asked me if everything was okay and if the little Beagle attacked us. I chuckled inside as I said, "No, he didn't."
If only that police officer had been there for us just a few minutes later....
I definitely would have tattled.
You know....dogs CAN be dangerous vicious mouth foaming beasts, OR they can be kind, quiet and lovable, stinky balls of fluff.
I choose the lovable, stinky kind.
Really grateful for Jack today and grateful we all came away unscathed.

Today Lucy has been teaching Jack English.
Making him memorize the names of all of her toys. She hides them and makes him find them again.
She said, "In case I ever loose my toys, Jack could help me find them again."
P.S. Did you know that it was this last SPRING that I finally found my inner dog?
I LOVE Jack And I LIKE Jack.
Those are NOT the same thing.
He loves me so much more now too since I tamed the beast(me).
