because he's a goat.

Sometimes my dog Jack makes me so angry, I could just spit in his eye and hope that it burns.
He is a handsome feller, but boy does he test me.

As far as patience goes, I have to work extra hard for any of that. A lot harder than usual.
Jack recently licked and licked at a spot of carpet in the girls room that he liked. He did it so much that he licked the carpet away. What in the world kind of animal does that?

What he likes to eat...
His favorite diet right now is crayons. He could eat those until he pooped colorful out his ears. He does leave the lawn looking quite vibrant and multicolored after, which is a plus I guess.
A close second favorite would be styrofoam...he loves that stuff.
As of yesterday he also likes cardboard boxes and t.v. remotes.
Really, I was thinking he is much more like a goat than a dog because goats eat everything.
Jack, the family goat.
Damon keeps telling me that he will grow out of his craziness. "Just wait and see", he says to me,
"YOU WILL LOVE HIM...We just have to get through the puppy stage". These are the words I hear echoing in my mind time and time again when I need reminding.

I'd be proud of my self if I could say that I am a huge dog lover, and that it comes naturally for me. I wish I could say that I like the smell of his breath...That I liked to let him lick my face, that I didn't mind his hairs on my clothes, and that I thought the odd scent of freshly washed dog smelled nice.
But I can't say that.

I'd like to say that I would sob(just like Lucy) just at the thought of him not having any supper or having him accidentally get lost and never found...
I couldn't say that either,
before today.

Jack and I had a breakthrough.
He likes to shake my hand. And he stares into my eyes...calmly.
Why does he do that??
I've been trying SO hard to understand the way a dog thinks...and I still can't grasp it.
One of these days I am going to "get it". I swear I will make myself a dog lover.

Because...

my FAMILY loves him.
Why wouldn't I want to love him too?
