When Lucy got home from school today, she told me all about how good she was being at school and how her teacher let her pick some candy out of the class candy jar...but she told her teacher, "No thank you."
I asked her why, because I don't usually see her refuse candy.
She said, "I just didn't want it."
"Oh...were you a little nervous to take it?" I asked.
She replied, "No, I just wanted to be healthy."
Then I heard Kandus say over in her silent corner of the room..."Lucy, that's just an excuse."
It made me laugh.
I am still thinking...Kandus just may be right.

Teaching Lucy how to read this past year has been so fun for me, but a different experience indeed.
Lucy is a VERY good reader...(not to mention so incredibly artistic.)
But let me just say, that at times I have to bite my lips to keep myself from laughing.
She has her own particular way...like when she guesses what the words say by looking at the pictures, instead of just reading them. I can always tell when she does that because it is soooo obvious.
I guess that way takes less effort?
The funniest though was last week...
She has been learning to put the words T,H and S,H together, and she was trying to read the word SHE...but I heard a distinct and very clear "SH@#."
It took me by complete surprise!
But, there was absolutely no suspicion at all from her that it was a bad word. Which is why it was so darn funny to me.
I kept an absolute straight face as she tried again and again.
In her innocent squeaky voice she said, "SH.......I mean.......TH........Oh, I mean.......SH@#."
Third time was a charm!

"Look mom...no feet!"
